Having spent 8 years consulting to a global supplier of facilities management services throughout Europe and the exposure to waste management processes throughout large organisations it was clear when returning to South Africa that the waste industry had fallen behind in terms of cooked food waste disposal.

Food waste accounts for nearly 50% of our total waste disposal to landfill, this incredible amount of waste is estimated at approx 22 million m3 tons per annum. South Africa needed a company to pioneer and we took up the challenge.

Green Genie waste solutions secured the distribution rights for Africa for the class leading global brand Joraform. With Joraform represented in over 35 countries and established for over 20 years they were the right partner for us to Pioneer alongside. We now have a solution for cooked food waste and together we can make a difference.

My decision to pursue a career in sustainability is driven by a deeper conscious awareness of our connection to and dependance on nature and of the detrimental effects consumerism and business operations have on our environment.

Waste Management costs will be rising due to legislations and diminishing landfill space. I encourage businesses, as part of their strategy,  to put in waste minimization and recycling systems now.  A sustainability strategy builds the resilience of a company, reduces cost on traditional waste management and enhances public image.
